Hegmo

Terms of service

These Terms are the agreement between you and Hegmo. They say who may use it, how you are expected to behave in it, what happens when somebody doesn't, and what you can and cannot expect from us. The Privacy policy is the other half, and covers your data. The Help centre explains how the app works; it is there to help, and is not part of this agreement.

Last updated 27 October 2026.

Hegmo is run from India by one person, the founder. [email protected] reaches them, and everywhere below that says write to us, that is the address.

Agreeing to these Terms

You agree to these Terms at the sign-in screen, by ticking the box that says you are 18 or older and agree to these Terms and the Privacy policy. It starts unticked and the sign-in buttons do nothing until you tick it, so there is no way to make an account without having agreed. If you do not agree with them, do not tick it — and if you already have an account, deleting it ends the agreement.

We record which version you agreed to and when, so that both of us can tell later what the agreement actually was. The version is the date at the top of this page, and we change it only when what you are agreeing to changes — not when a typo is fixed.

You have to be 18

Hegmo is for adults. You may use it only if you are 18 or older, and by using it you are telling us that you are.

The app asks for your date of birth when you sign up and refuses to make an account for a date under 18. Your date of birth cannot be edited afterwards, which is what stops that refusal being a formality. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us at [email protected] and we will act on it.

Your account

What Hegmo is

You ask for a group, you wait alongside other people near you who asked for something similar, and a group opens with all of you in it at once. Nobody picks you and you pick nobody. The only thing a group has to do is chat — there are no private one-to-one messages in Hegmo at all.

We do not promise that a group will form, when it will form, or who will be in it. That depends on how many people near you are waiting for something like what you asked for, which is not something we control.

Meeting in person is your decision, always

Nothing in Hegmo asks a group to meet up. If a group does, that is the group's own idea and your own judgement, and it happens entirely outside the app.

We do not verify anybody's identity, and we do not run background checks. Members are strangers, and what somebody types on a profile is what they typed. Use the ordinary care you would with anyone you have not met: meet somewhere public, tell somebody where you are going, and leave whenever you want to. If you are ever in danger, contact your local emergency services first — then tell us, so we can act on the account.

The rules

Every member is owed a room they can actually be in. These rules are what that costs. They apply everywhere in the app: a group chat, your profile and photos, your handle, a group's name, a caption, and the Feedback board.

Do not:

If you are unsure about something, the test is simple: would you say it to somebody sitting across a table from you?

Reporting, blocking, and what we do about it

Report sends a message or a member to us with a reason attached. You can report from a message or from a member's profile. Every report is read by a person — today that person is the founder. We do not promise how fast, and we will not always tell you what was decided, but the report is read.

Block is between you and one other person and takes effect at once: the two of you are never matched into the same group again. When you block, you choose whether to leave the groups you share with them or stay in them; one choice covers every group you share. If you stay, nothing in the chat changes, and if they make it a place you don't want to be, report them. A block cannot be undone, and we do not tell them.

When a report is upheld, what we can do includes removing a message, a photo, a profile field or a Feedback board post; taking you out of a group; and closing your account and barring you from Hegmo for good. For something at the serious end of the rules above — a threat, anything involving a child, harassment somebody is being hurt by — we will do that immediately and without a warning first. For lesser things we will usually warn you.

Reports about you outlive your account: deleting it does not erase a record of harassment. The Privacy policy says exactly what is kept.

If you think we got it wrong, write to [email protected]. A person will read it again.

The Feedback board

The board is the one place in Hegmo where you can say what you think of the app itself, and where every other member can read it. Writing a post, reading the board, upvoting a post and reporting one are all in the app now. This is what agreeing to these Terms means for it.

What you post stays yours

Your photos and your words are yours. So that the app can work at all, you give us permission to store them and show them to the people Hegmo shows them to — the members of your groups, and people swiping near you — for as long as your account exists, plus the one thing under Deleting your account that outlives it.

That permission exists to run Hegmo and nothing else. We do not sell your content, license it to anybody, or use it to advertise.

Content from YouTube

Your profile can show YouTube channels you choose, on your YouTube Diet. That feature uses the YouTube API Services, and by using it you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. The channel names and pictures come from YouTube and are shown with its mark. What we keep about them, and for how long, is in the Privacy policy.

Plans and payments

Hegmo is free to use, and nothing in it can be paid for yet — the plans below are built and the billing behind them is not, so until it is switched on this section describes what will happen, not what is happening. A plan lifts particular limits on what the free app lets you do; what each one includes is in the app and in the Help centre, and the price is shown to you before you pay, which is why there is no price on this page.

Deleting your account

Profile → the gear → Delete account. It asks once and then it is done: there is no undo and no grace period. Your profile, your photos, your likes, your preferences and your waiting requests go, and you are taken out of every group.

Two things stay, and the Privacy policy says the same:

We can close an account too: for breaking these rules, or if we have to stop offering Hegmo at all. Unless it is an enforcement decision, we will tell you first.

The app as it is

Hegmo is new, it is small, and it is changing. We may add, change or remove features, and it will sometimes be unavailable. We do not screen or verify members before they arrive, we cannot promise that a group will form or that anybody in it will reply, and we do not read chats as they happen — reporting is how something reaches us.

To the extent the law allows, Hegmo is provided as it is, without guarantees.

If something goes wrong

Nothing here limits liability that the law does not let us limit — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Beyond that, and as far as Indian law allows, we are not responsible for what other members say, do or post, on the app or off it; for anything that happens when members meet in person; or for a loss that could not reasonably have been foreseen. Where liability cannot be excluded at all, it is limited to what you have paid for Hegmo in the twelve months before the claim, whether you paid a store or us — and, since Hegmo can be used without paying anything, to a nominal sum if you have paid nothing.

Changes to these Terms

We can change these Terms. When a change matters — when it affects what you may do here, what we may do about it, or what you are paying for — we will ask you to agree again in the app, rather than quietly editing this page. Smaller corrections are simply made, and the date at the top changes. Carrying on using Hegmo after a change means you accept it.

The law that applies

These Terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them. Nothing here takes away a protection that the consumer law where you live gives you and does not let you give up.

Contact

Write to [email protected]. It reaches a person. Telling us your handle and what you were doing at the time is usually enough to sort something out in one reply.
